Gyroids – Animal Crossing: New Horizons guide

What exactly are these gyroid pieces, and how do they grow?

The major 2.0 update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons brought gyroids and gyroid fragments, as well as the wiggly, noise-making haniwa furniture. There are 36 gyroid collectibles to locate, each with a distinct appearance and sound. Our gyroid guide for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will show you how to develop gyroids and list all of the gyroids in ACNH.

WHAT ARE GYROIDS?

Gyroids are wonderful small decorations in ACNH that generate funky, distinctive noises and toot and tingle to music you play. (Gyroids only dance and sing when placed near music, however they will wiggle around both indoors and outdoors.)

Gyroids are modeled on haniwa, ancient Japanese sculptures buried with the dead, making their discovery in your Animal Crossing environment a touch morbid. But who can resist a foolish tiny man making stupid little noises?

Lloid, the NPC that builds your island, is a gyroid, and we’re not clear why he’s sentient or whether this indicates all gyroids are sentient.

HOW TO GROW GYROIDS AND GYROID FRAGMENTS

You must first take a boat excursion with Kapp’n before you may develop gyroids. You can sail in exchange for 1,000 Nook Miles if you go to your island’s pier.

You’ll find the normal crafting supplies and fruits on the island he sends you to, and you could even be sent to out-of-season locations. More notably, the islands will include the X-shaped holes in the ground seen in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to commemorate all Animal Crossing: New Horizons fossils. A gyroid piece, however, can be found on these islands.

Return the gyroid piece to your island. With your shovel, dig a hole in the earth and choose your gyroid piece from the menu. Bury the gyroid fragment in the earth (by selecting Bury in Hole).

Water your gyroid like you would a plant or tree. When you do this, you’ll see a small puff of steam. That will be the only time you will need to water it. You’ll be able to find your gyroid the next day.
